Start Pilates in Singapore — The Right Way

Updated: March 2026 · Pilatique Singapore

Starting Pilates for the first time can feel confusing. Many people try random classes, online exercises, or trial sessions without understanding their posture, movement patterns, or injury history.

If you are starting Pilates for the first time — or restarting after pain, injury, pregnancy or post-natal changes, long desk hours, or a long break — the biggest mistake is doing “random sessions” without understanding your body and what is limiting progress.

Pilatique Singapore takes a more structured approach. We help you start with clarity, safety, and purpose so you build strength, control, and confidence that carries into daily life. This is not about doing more exercises. It is about doing the right things, in the right order, with the right cues.

Begin with our Pilates Starter Session

The Pilates Starter Session is a structured onboarding session designed to help you start properly — with clarity, confidence, and expert guidance. It is not compulsory, but it is the smartest starting point for most new clients because it gives your instructor a clear baseline to coach you responsibly from day one.

Think of it as your first consult and first session in one. We look at posture and movement patterns that commonly drive discomfort, then we coach fundamentals that match your body and goals. You also leave with a practical recommendation for what to do next, so you do not waste time or money guessing.

55 Minutes · $50

Includes Postural Analysis, Goal Setting, and guided Pilates exercises on equipment and/or mat based on instructor judgement and what is most relevant for you.

What happens in the Starter Session

We keep this session structured so it is easy to understand and repeatable — but still tailored to you. If you are dealing with pain, stiffness, recurring injuries, or “I don’t feel stable”, we use this time to identify what is most likely driving it and what to prioritise first.

Postural Analysis

We observe alignment and common movement patterns that affect pain, posture, breathing mechanics, and how well you “find” the right muscles.

Goal Setting

We clarify what you want — pain-free movement, strength, mobility, posture, return-to-sport, or pregnancy/post-natal rebuilding — and what success looks like.

Guided Pilates Work

We coach fundamentals on equipment and/or mat to match your needs. Expect precise cueing, safety-first progressions, and a clear “why” behind each exercise.

Clear Next Steps

We help you decide whether Private or Duet is the best fit, what to focus on over the next 4–8 sessions, and what patterns to avoid aggravating.

This session is typically conducted by our Apprentice and Certified Instructors trained to follow a structured onboarding process with professional standards. If you want to understand our approach in more depth, see Rehab-Clinical Pilates. If you are feeling nervous about what your first session will actually be like, read what to expect on your first visit to a Pilates studio.

What clients say about their first session

★★★★★

“Attended the duet trial with my sister, and Jacinda made us feel comfortable and welcome. Quite a useful consultation as I have more knowledge of maintaining a neutral spine by adjustment of the pelvis. I’ve been to multiple group classes, but only learnt the basic in this short trial. Thank you for providing this tryout.”

Not sure where to start?

WhatsApp us with what you are dealing with — pain, stiffness, injury history, posture concerns, pregnancy or post-natal changes, or performance goals — and we will guide you to the most suitable location and next step.

Private vs Duet — which should you choose?

Both are coached formats, not open group classes. The difference is how much individual attention you need and how complex your history is. If you want the fastest technical progress, or you have a more sensitive injury pattern, Private is usually the cleanest start.

If you are unsure, do not overthink the format yet. We can help you decide after understanding your goals, history, and confidence level.

Private (1:1)

Best if you want maximum individual attention, have a complex injury history, or want faster technical progress.

Duet (2:1)

Great if you want to train with a partner while still receiving precise, structured coaching rather than a group-class experience.

For ongoing training options, visit Private Pilates Sessions in Singapore. If your starting point is more pain- or rehab-related, see Back Pain or Rehab-Clinical Pilates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pilates Starter Session mandatory?

No. It is not compulsory, but it is the smartest starting point for most new clients because it gives your instructor a clear baseline and gives you a much clearer sense of what to do next.

Is this just a discounted private session?

Not exactly. It includes guided Pilates work, but it is designed as a structured onboarding session with postural analysis, goal setting, and next-step recommendations rather than just a one-off session.

Do you offer open group Pilates classes?

No. Pilatique focuses on Private and Duet coaching formats so that sessions remain more precise, structured, and appropriate to the individual.

Can I do Pilates if I have pain or an injury history?

Often yes, but starting with a guided format is usually the safer option. If you are dealing with pain, stiffness, or a more complex history, tell us when you enquire so we can guide you properly.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Grip socks are helpful, and avoid anything too loose that makes alignment and movement difficult to assess.

Can I start with a full-priced single session instead?

Yes, you can. But for most newcomers, the Starter Session gives a clearer and more cost-effective starting point because it combines assessment, guided work, and next-step planning.

What if I am nervous about my first Pilates session?

That is normal. If you want a clearer sense of how the first session works, what to wear, and what to expect, read what to expect on your first visit to a Pilates studio.
